External Insulation

External Wall Insulation (EWI), also known as Solid Wall Insulation, is the Energy Saving Solutions for structures that do not have a Cavity Wall. Almost 30% of the UK’s housing market comprises Solid Wall structures, many of which date back to the pre 1930’s where energy saving solutions weren’t a prevalent forethought for construction. As a result many solid wall structures suffer from poor energy efficiency, which creates a lesser comfort of living, and higher costs of sustainability in the colder months of the year.

Why Invest In External Wall Insulation?

There are currently two major options to choose from when looking to insulate a solid wall property; external wall insulation or internal wall insulation. The first relies on creating a tea cosy effect, by applying an insulation layer to the outside walls of your home. The other relies on creating an insulation layer on each internal wall of the property.

Benefits of External Wall Insulation

There are two major benefits to insulation being applied to the exterior as opposed to the interior. The first being no compromise on existing floor space; as the internal wall relies on applying additional build ups to the interior walls, floor space of the property will shrink as a result. The second major issue involved with internal wall insulation comes in the form of disruption; as all of the outer walls will need to receive a layer of insulation, everything must first be removed from those walls, including wallpaper, existing plaster, fireplaces, and things such as mirrors, pictures & paintings. This will then need to be re-plastered upon successful insulation, which could also mean specific rooms being out of commission for extended periods of time. As EWI takes place on the outside of your property, there is little to no disruption involved.
